Simple Steps for Maltese Puppy Cut
If you own a Maltese dog, you may want to familiarize yourself with the Maltese puppy cut. Being a member of the toy class of dog, the Maltese weighs between three and ten pounds. This breed of dog’s claim to fame is its silky flowing fur coat, which lacks an undercoat.
Unlike other dogs that simply shed fur, the Maltese does not shed. As such, Maltese fur must be brushed and cleaned regularly to avoid matting. To avoid this, some owners opt for the Maltese puppy cut, sometimes called a “teddy bear cut” which consists of cutting the fur to an all-over length of half an inch.
This cut is good for house pets, but not for show animals. You can cut the fur yourself, or you can have a dog groomer do it.
In between grooming, you will have to brush your dog so that the hair does not clump or become matted to their skin. This can cause a lot of health issues and could cause the dog to be uncomfortable.
Brushing and shampooing the dog also removes the dead hair, which eliminate “doggie smell” caused by the dead fur. Brush the fur the in direction it grows and do not go against the grain as this will lead to matting. This is easy with this type of puppy cut.
This should feel good for your dog. And as long as they are comfortable with it, brushing your dog anytime will be possible. Brushing his fur like this is also quick and easy.
Maltese dogs love to run and play, and getting dirty in the process means nothing to them. Thus, it will be left to you to keep his fur clean and well-groomed.
